Edwin Parks

Edwin Parks

Edwin James Parks, 83, of Kurtistown died Aug. 21, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born May 25, 1931, in Chicago, he was a retired chemist at the National Institute of Science and Technology. He was a part-time sign language teacher for Hawaii Community School for Adults and a substitute teacher at Keaau, Waiakea and Kamehameha schools. He was also a member of multiple associations of the deaf.

Friends may call at 5 p.m. Sept. 5 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 6 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by sons, Howard (Linda) Parks of Silver Springs, Md., Olin (Stacy) Parks, Gordon (Kimberly) Parks; daughter, Genevieve (Hank Fergerstrom) Parks, all of Kurtistown; sister, Alice Munro of Uhrichsville, Ohio; seven grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Michael Rodrigues

Michael M. Rodrigues, 69, of Keaau died Aug. 27, 2014, at home. Born Aug. 11, 1945, in Honolulu, he was a retired United Airlines flight attendant and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Keaau Ward.

Private services were held.

He is survived by wife, Lawrene Rodrigues of Keaau; son, Ron (Corrina Ui) Rodrigues of Kapoho; daughter, Tammy (George) Kekauoha of Keaau; sister, Elsie Yangson of Honolulu; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Glenn Cornick

Glenn Douglas Cornick, 67, of Hilo died Aug. 28, 2014, at his residence. Born April 23, 1947, in England, he was a founding member and bass player for Jethro Tull, and founder of the band Endangered Species.

Services will be held at a later date. Condolences may be posted at homelanimemorialpark.com.

He is survived by wife, Brigitte Martinez-Cornick of Hilo; sons, Alex Cornick of Hilo, Drew Cornick of Fullerton, Calif.; daughter, Molly Martinez of San Pedro, Calif.; one cousin.

Yoshiko Narikiyo

Yoshiko Narikiyo, 95, of Hilo died Aug. 11, 2014, at the Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born in Honohina, she was a founding member of the Kaunakakai Baptist Church.

A private service was held in Honolulu.

She is survived by sons, Clifford Narikiyo of Los Angeles, Yoshito (Valerie) Narikiyo of Honolulu, Steven (Gwenne) Narikiyo of Hilo; daughters, Janet (Jim) Linardos of Seattle, Coleen Narikiyo of Kaunakakai, Molokai; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Eugene Aihara

Eugene Matsuo Aihara, 78, of Hilo died Aug. 3, 2014, at the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born July 11, 1936, in Waipahu, Oahu, he was retired from Verizon Hawaii Inc., a U.S. Army Korean War veteran, and member of the Sure Foundation Church Hilo.

Friends may call at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 4 at the Sure Foundation Church Hilo in Prince Kuhio Plaza for a 10:30 a.m. service. A committal service will be held at 9 a.m. Sept. 5 at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No.2. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

He is survived by wife, Amy Aihara of Hilo; son, Keith (Jill) Aihara, of Seattle; daughter, Lori (Alvin) Sugiyama of Hilo; brothers, Toru Aihara of Torrance, Calif., Raymond Aihara, of Kula, Maui; sisters, Chieko Hashizume, Sachiko Komata, both of Wahiawa, Oahu; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews.

Keith Kunimura

Keith Gordon Kunimura, 66, of Hilo died Aug. 19, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, he was a carpenter and he worked at Meadow Gold Dairies as a processor.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. Sept. 6 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 5 p.m. service. The family requests casual attire be worn and flowers be omitted.

He is survived by wife, Andrea Kunimura of Hilo; son, Garrett (Ashley) Kunimura of Honolulu; daughters, Kris (Carlos) Ilarraza of Hilo, Erika (Mark) Tanimoto of Honolulu; mother, Jean Kunimura; sister, Jessica (Wilfred) Yamasawa; brother, Jon Kunimura, all of Kona; four grandchildren, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Stephen French

Stephen “Steve” Thomas French, 51, of Hilo died Aug. 9, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born June 23, 1963, in Arcadia, Calif., he was a truck driver for Suisan and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of Family Christian Center in Hilo.

Friends may call at 3 p.m. Sept. 7 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 5 p.m. service. A committal service will be held at noon Sept. 8 at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Family requests aloha attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Lolly (Adeline) French; father, Thomas French, both of Hilo; brothers, Ken French of Texas and Doug (Steve Nordwick) French of California; two aunts; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Domingo Nunes Sr.

Domingo Riviera Nunes Sr., 81, of Hilo died Aug. 26, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honomu, he retired as a civil service custodian supervisor for the federal government.

Friends may call at 9 a.m Sept. 6 at Haili Church in Hilo for a service. A potluck will follow.

He is survived by daughters, Julia (Derwin) Kunewa of Hilo, Marie Hughes of Alabama; sons, Chucky (Sharon) Nunes of Hilo; Michael Perez of Kailua-Kona; sister Ginger Brummett of California; 21 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Abbie Kailimai

Abbie Kahanu Kailimai, 99, of Honomu died Aug. 28, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Jan. 4, 1915, in Halakau, she was a homemaker and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Honomu Branch.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Sept. 6 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center on Kilauea Ave. for an 11 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers. Entombment will follow at the Homelani Memorial Park mausoleum.

She is survived by sons, Wesley (Pearl) Kailimai, Jay Kailimai; daughters, Gail Kaapuni, Maydel Matsubara, Henrietta (Castle) Kailimai, all of Hilo; brother, James Kailimai of Folkston, Ga.; 15 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Sarah Borges

Sarah Borges, 86, of Pahoa died Aug. 19, 2014, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Dec. 19, 1927, in Honolulu, she was a retired manager for the former Iolani Hotel in Hilo and a member of the Pahoa Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Friends may call at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Paradise Drive Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 15-1517 Paradise Dr. in Keaau. Family requests no flowers.

She is survived by son, Melvin Sr. (Jo Ann) Borges of Pahoa; daughter-in-law, Lynn Borges of Kentucky; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

John Apana

John Lani Apana, 65, of Captain Cook died Aug. 13, 2014, at Hospice’s Nakamaru Hale in Holualoa. Born Jan. 30, 1949 in Honolulu, he was a chef at various restaurants.

Friends may call at 3 p.m. Sept. 7 at Tiki Mama’s in Ocean View for a service.

He is survived by son, Shannon Apana of California; daughter, Angelina Apana-Smith of California; brothers, Bono Aragon of Waimanalo, Oahu, Julian (Leona) Aragon of Oahu, Robert Asagra, Andrew (Elizabeth) Aragon, all of Kailua, Oahu; sisters, Theresa Pahinui of Arizona and Rita Aragon of Oahu.
